AUSTRALIANS' VISIT I t MATCH WITH CANTERBLHY ! The fourth match between AustraI lian and Canterbury elevens will be I played at Lancaster Park Oval to-day as a curtain-raiser to the Nelson v. Canterbury Rugby football match. The Australian team arrived from Kaikoura 1 yesterday by motor, being met -some distance beyond Kaiapoi by official:,; of the New Zealand and Canterbury Associations, and given an unofficial { welcome by the roadside. The team , is a youthful one, as compared with previous teams, and only one, J. Elliott, has toured the Dominion previously. Mr W. Rothwell, manager of the team has established a record byhaving managed all four Australian teams that have toured New Zealand. Mr PI. J. Flockart, who accompanies the team, was u member of the 1922 and 1925 teams. The touring team has been fairly successful so far, having 1 played seven matches, the record of which is as follows: - v. VVaikato. lost 2-3. v. Horowhenua, won •( ■ 1. \. Dannevirke, won n-1 v. Wellington, lost 3-1. v. Nelson, won 4-2. v. Motueka, won 4-0 v. Kaikoura won 0-0. In previous matches \\ nh Canterbury the Australian sides have been defeated twice, and one match has been drawn. Following is the record: I 1922. lost 0-2. ' .1.925, lost 1-2 i 1929, drawn 1-1 1 Wet. sodden grounds ha\ e hampered the visitors in some of then' games ni the present lour, especially (hose at WelUmgton and Hamilton, as their style i of! play is more suited to fast, dry 1 ground's At. Kaikoura on Thursday 1 Hie visitors nave a great exhibition of 'clever stick work and magnificent 1 combined positional play and are fully ! expected to extend Canterbury a best i ui the game this afternoon. ; The Canterbury side include.- iome players that must be considered more or 'less experiments. H. A. BarneU, centre forward, has not. played in any representative match before but his experience as a tennis player makes him fit and fast with a line knowledge of ball control. S. Andrews and C. A. Rogers, full-backs, are an experienced pair, and with H. Barrhill, the Trinity goalkeeper, should make a solid defence. The halves, W. Bowden C. Hore. and E. Cooper, are a fine trio; C. Hore is an old and experienced player. W. Bowden is considered the best half in Canterbury this season, and is unlucky to miss inclusion in the New Zealand team. P. Forman. Trinity's right wing, is playing brilliant hockey this year, and with R. Rushbridge, B. Duffleld, andH. C Ford, the forward line should possess plenty of pace and clever stick play. . ...
