SPORTS FIXTURES FOR TO-DAY

—* — REPRESENTATIVE GAMES HOCKEY AND RUGBY AT LANCASTER PARK The appearance of the Australian hockey team in Christchurch and the representative Rugby match, Canterbury v. Nelson, are the chief sports fixtures tor this afternoon. Games will be played in all other codes, and the South Island 50 miles' amateur cycling championship will be competed for by a field of nearly 90 riders. The New Zealand women's hockey tournament will begin at Elisor's road. The hockey match. Australia v. Canterbury, will be played on the Lancaster Park oval, beginning at 1.15 p.m.. and will be followed at 2.43 p.m. by the representative Rugby match, Nelson v. Canterbury. Association and League Two Association football matches in Hie English Cup series will be played this afternoon. Fendalton. Cycling Championship The 50 miles' amateur road cycling championship of the South Island, which was to have been held last week, will be run to-day, starting at 2 p.m. from the corner of Shirley and Marshland roads. The course will take the riders through Kaiapoi, Wooclend, Waikuku, Sefton, Rangiora, and Ohoka, coming back through Kaiapoi and Belfast, to finish near the starting point. Ninety entries have been received. Women's Hockcv Seventeen teams will take part in the New Zealand women's hockey tournament, which will begin at the Technical College grounds at Ensor's road. A march past will be held at 1.30 p.m. and at 1.45 p.m. the visiting players will be officially welcomed by the Mayor (Mr D. G. Sullivan, M.P.). The first four matches will begin simultaneously at 2 o'clock. The tournament will be continued throughout next week. Basketball The Canterbury Basketball Association's competitions will be continued at South Hagley Park. The draw for the senior grade, beginning at 2.15 p.m., is as follows:—Section I—United v. Beckenham A, court 1; Cathedral v. Mairehau A. court 2: Digby's A v. Technical A, court 4; University A a bye. Section 2—Ngaio A v.A.B.C. A, court 5; St. Mary's A v. Beckenham. B. court 7; Waiata v.
