SUNDAY ISLAND FARM SETTLEMENT

Plans for a settlement 011 Sunday Island, the largest island of the Kermadic group, are being completed in Auckland. The larger part of the island is a bird sanctuary, but the property known as Bell's section is privately owned, and it is on this that it. is proposed to establish a farming settlement. A Sunday Island Association has been . funned, and also a company, which is negotiate for the purchase of a vessel to run u .ovular service to the island from Auckland. It is understood some 20 persons are awaiting the ship to take them to the island, where they will take up an area of about 360 acres. The island was occupied in 1878. and for some years afterward, by Mr T. Bell and family, and attempts at a settlement were made in 392G by Mr C. H. Parker and two others, but Mr Parker died of blood poisoning.
