J. Perry to-day refused an offer of 50,000 dollars from Bill O'Brien, the American promoter, to turn professional. O'Brien said Perry gave three reasons. He would have to pay nearly half the sum in British taxes, he would be ostracised at all British clubs, and he is to marry Mary Lawson, an English actress soon, and would not want to do anything to upset that plan now. Stoefen, 7-5, 7-9 8-6. G. M. Lott beat McAuliff, 5-7, 6-2, 9-7. Parker beat F. H. Wilde (England l . Shields, Bell, Sutter, Tidbali. and Mako all advanced in straight sets. WOMEN'S SINGLES Second Round Miss Betty Nuthall (England) beat Miss Carolin Roberts (New York), 8-b, 6_ Miss K. E. Stammers (Englai.d) beat Miss Doeg (California), 6-u. 7-5. Miss F. James (England) beat Mrs William Hester (New York), 6-1, 6-1. WOMEN'S DOUBLES Second Round Misses Nuthall and M. A. Thomas (England) beat Mrs Hester and Mr« Henry Brunie (New York), 6-3, 6-2. Misses Stammers and James beat Miss Florence le Boutillier (New York) and Baroness Levi, 6-0, 6-3.
