i DEMOCRATIC CANDIDATE FOR GOVERNORSHIP (Received August 29, J0.40 p.m.) SAN FRANCISCO, August 28. Mr Upton Sinclair, the writer and former socialist, received the Democratic endorsement for the governorship of California at the primaries to-day on his platform of "End Poverty in California." He will probably face the present acting-governor, Mr Frank MeiTiam, who is likely to be chosen by the Republicans, in the November elections.
