Trail was master of ceremonies. j CUST There was a fair attendance at the annual meeting of the Cust Cricket Club. Mr E. Wayland presided. The balance-sheet, which was adopted, showed a credit. It was decided to enter a team for the North Canterbury Cricket Association competitions, and to leave the annual subscription the same as in former years. Messrs E. Wayland and H. Sail were appointed delegates to the North Canterbury Association. Ofiicers elected for the ensuing year were:—Patron, Mr John Cowens; president, Mr E. W. Cooper; secretary, Mr Ernest Henderson: auditor, Mr G. Overend. It was decided to leave the appointment of captain until the day of the first match. At the quarterly meeting of the Loyal Cust Lodge, M.IT., Bro. Geo. Finlay, N.G., presided over an attendance of 32. Quarterly accounts and sick pay amounting to £3O 9s sd, were passed for payment. Advice was received that the members of the local Orange Lodge would attend to play a friendly game of cards at the next meeting of the Oddfellows. A letter was received from the secretary, of the Loyal Rangiora Lodge, intimating that the Lyttelton Lodges would be paying a visit to Rangiora in September, and extended an invitation to the Cust members to be present. The following district officers were present:—D.G. Master, Bro. G. Gibling; D.D.G. Master, Bro. Cole; District secretary, &D.G.M. Bro. C. I. Jennings; and P.D.G. Masters Bros. Archer and Trollope. Bro. T. B. Lock, F.S., proposed the toast to the visitors, which was responded to by each of the district officers in turn. D.D.G. Master Bro. Cole, in his reply, gave an account of his recent visit to England. After the business, supper was provided and a social hour with musical items was spent. j H4LSWELL A successful euchre party and hard up dance were held in the Public Hall under the management of St. Mary's vestry and guild committee. The proceeds were to be given to the organ fund. Prizes for the cards were won by Mrs J. Templelcn and Mrs J. Dc-ary, and Messrs E. Lunt and A. McDury. The prizes for the best hard up dresses were won by Miss M. Cox and Mr James Lafley. Music for the dance was played by F. Smith's orchestra. with extras by Mr W. Rosei lor. Mr N. Gardiner was master of [ ceremonies. A card party and dance were held by the joint committee of the State School and St. Agnes's. The proceeds were to help the annual combined picnic funds. Competitions in the card room wore won by Mrs Deary and Miss V. McConne!), and Mr W. Hnycs and L. Smart.. . Mr and Mrs li. H eyes were the winners in the lucky snot waltz. Miss N. LafTcy and Mr j. Eden were the winners of a Monte Carlo d'.mce. Messrs D. MeConnoll and W. McNamnra were masters of ceremonies, and music for the dance was played by F. Smith's orchestra with extras played by Mr W. Roselor. AKAROA A six-roome 1 unoccupied house, owned by the Lardncr Estate, at the corner of Jolie and Aylmer streets, was destroyed by fire on Monday night. The fire brigade was quickly cn the scene, and confined the outbreak to the building, thus saving two adjoining houses owned by Miss A. Brocherie and Mr W. Pool. Tnis | is the third empty house that has been destr6yed by fire since July 3, all three fires having occurred between 6.30 and 7 p.m.

LINCOLN A social gathering of parishioners of St. Stephen's Church was held in the Lincoln Hall, as part of the church's anniversary celebrations. A very large number of parishioners attended, r«ijd the vicar (the Rev. T. M. Curnow) opened the proceedings with a brief address outlining the early history of the parish. A short musical programme followed, pianoforte items being given by Mesdames H. Golding and T. M. Curnow and Miss R. Henry, £ songs by Mesdames T. Foster and T. M. Curnow, Messrs H. Mills and J. H. T. Curnow, recitations by Mr C. Mills * and Master A. Hopley, and a mando- - 1 lin-guitar solo by Mrs McPherson, the accompanists being Miss R. Henry and Dr. E. J. Cooke. A single-act farcical comedy sketch followed, the various f parts being well taken by Misses N. Stoddart, R. Henry, A. Hopley, E. Zuppicich, M. Reynish, and M. Hills, pi Mesdames Harvey and H. Golding, I Messrs C. Mills and A. J. Lysaght, and * Masters W. and A. Hopley and A. Mills. Mrs T. M. Curnow was stage manager. After some community singing and games supper was served by the women. ! SHEFFIELD j A meeting of the vestry of St. Ambrose's Church of England was held 1 in the vicarage. The Rev. A. S. Moffatt . presided. It was reported that the , new roof and the repairs to the church had been completed satisfactory 1 ily. It was decided to proceed with the painting of the exterior of the church as soon as the weather was suitable. Townshend; patron, Mr R. Colthart; vicepresidents, Messrs A. W. Adams and G. H. Judd; captain, Mr L. Melrose; vice-captain, Mrs Q. A. Wright; honorary secretary, Miss D. O.
