ASHBURTON FESTIVAL I | TWO DEMONSTRATION CONCERTS The demonstration concerts of tho Ashburton Competitions Society's tenth annual festival, were held yesterday, the evening performance being particularly well attended. Varied and interesting programmes were given by prize-winning competitors. The staging of the two demonstration concerts during the one day was a successful arrangement which suited the convenience of the prize-winning visiting competitors who were enabled to return to their homes a day earlier than in former years. During the interval of the evening performance the trophies won during the festival were presented by the Mayor (Mr W. H. Woods) and the prizes awarded in the national dancing sections were presented by the chief of the Ashburton County Scottish So-, ciety (Mr H. Sinclair). | The special awards were:—Women's aggregate (Mr J. Connolly's special), Mrs Gordon Morrow (Spreydon), 463 points; runner-up. Miss Betty Hilliard j (Opawa), 456 points. Men's aggregate (society's special), Mr T. Edmund Douds (Palmerston North), 466 points; runner-up, Mr A. J. Miles-Cadman (Opawa), 460 points. National dancing, under 12 (Mr H. Sinclair's medal), Shirley .Tames, 432 points. National dancing, 12 and under 14 (Mr H. Sinclair's medal), J;yceDenlcy, 418 points; Miss G. Bushell's medal for competitor under 10 gaining most points in Highland fling, under 14 (Ashburton County only), Betty Fowke, 61 points; Miss Betty tarnochan's medal for competitor under 10 gaining most points in Highland fling, under 12, Ngaire Brown (Sydenham), 80 points.
