O NEW BUILDING IN LONDON The London premises of the Royal Empire Society, which are shortly to be rebuilt in Northumberland avenue, contain not only the society's library and offices but also a lounge and 25 well-equipped rooms for special purposes, including luncheon rooms, tea rooms, a billiards room, and a card room. The library, which is the finest of its kind in the world, contains about "218,000 volumes and pamphlets. There are also separate law and parliamentary libraries, which form an invaluable source of information about the Empire. The newspaper room adjoining the library contains more than 1000 newspapers, magazines and periodicals from all parts of the Emnire. The society, of whicH there are branches in Christchurch and Auckland, offers facilities for overseas members to visit Parliament while it is in session and for visits to factories and industrial centres. Pending the completion of the new building temporary premises have been provided at 17 Carlton House terrace. They contain accommodation equal to the former headquarters, with the exception of a billiards room.
