RUGBY FOOTBALL j In the Rugby football match played; in the afternoon, the teams were:— ] Christchurch—l. Sellers; R. Robertson, N. Bailey, R. Dench; D. Murray, | A. McVinme (captain); L. Wood; L. Allison, L, Johnston, L. Jones, D. Her-! man, D. Hi y Its, J. Fraser, M. Price,! and R. Lamb. j Dunedin—J. Patcrson; F, Marks, A. Maxwell, A. Kennedy; J. Tomlinson, A. Stent; J. Sarginson; F. Marks, T. I Lethaby, D. Plunkctt, R. Beasley, R.! Munro, L. Christie, J. Porteous, and H. Montgomery. Christchurch attacked from the start, but the Dunedin defence was good, especially from the full-back, J. Paterson, who safely handled the greasy] ball and kicked to the line well. Me- j Vinnie was the outstanding Christchurch back, playing a sure game throughout. The forwards were evenly matched, with a slight advantage to Dunedin, which was putting more vigour into the work, and attacking better. Towards half-time the Christchurch forwards began to show better form, and for some time kept Dunedin hemmed in its own half. During this] period the only try of the first spell was scored, the Christchurch forwards coming through in a loose rush to the Dunedin goal-line. A ruck developed, and from this Herman secured the ball and dived over. Murray's kick was unsuccessful. Christchurch now pressed hard, and Dunedin was kept defending. Although the Christchurch boys seemed to have the advan' age of weight in the scrums, they could not get the ba'l out, and Dunedin frequently obtained, to get away. Half-time came with both teams playing hard and the score: Christchurch 3, Dunedin 0. After the resumption, the Dunedin forwards attacked with more vigour, but they were continually forced back by Christchurch. although Ihe latter was now playing against the wind Sellers was playing well at full-back, and the live-eighths, Murray and McVinnie. worked usefully. Fc-r some time play was dull, nnd the ball being too slippery to hnndle, it was kept at the toe. Dunedin forced its way uolleld, and from an infringement, obtained a penalty kick, which struck the cross-bar. Soon after, another penalty was awarded, but this one hit post. It seemed that Dunedin Was most unluckv not to score on several, occasions after the forwards had followed un fast. An almost certain try for Dunedin. was saved by Dench, who forced down ;ju c t in time. Near the end Christchurch followed up in a I dribbling rush, and n scrum was ordered at five yards. L. Wood secured the ball, and went over in the corner for a good try. The game finished soon after, with the score:' — Christ'-hureh Technical College 6 Kin? Edward Technical College 0 Referee: Mr K. H. Pcrrin. NETBALL The, netball match resulted in a win for Dunedin by Ifl points to 14. The players in this match had the advantage of I lie fine weaiher in the morning, and a fast game was played on a reasonably good ground. The teams proved well matched, with good centre play from both sides, but Dunedin was stronger in defence. The game was marked by good passing and good intercepting. Olga Millar, Marjorie Tavener, and Gwen Rix played best for the visitors, and for the home team Margaret Wootton and Edna Henderson did good work. The referee. Miss A. King, remarked that this was one of the fastest and cleanest games she had seen. ASSOCIATION FOOTBALL Christchurch Technical College suffered defeat in the Association football match by 3 goals to 0. The game was started just before the Rugby match, and the players experienced the same miserable conditions. Tho game was even, but Dunedin showed superior combination. The Christchurch forwards did not keep up the pressure, but weakened off during] the game. J. O'Connor kept goal well ■ for the home team, and at centre, E. Harris distributed the ball well to the forwards. For Dunedin, J. Robertson and I. R. Adamson played well in the forwards, and goals were scored by R. Brecse, J. Robertson, and G. Wadsworth. Referee: Mr G. Yates. HOCKEY The girls' hockey match was won by Christchurch by 1 goa* to 0. Soon after the game had commenced the rain came on, and the players were soon soaked through. In the fh'st half Christchurch attacked, the Dunedin goal-keeper saving well on several occasions, but in the second spell, although playing against the wind, Dunedin often outplayed the Christchurch team, and was unlucky not to score at least one goal. Miss A. King was referee. SOCIAL EVENING TO VISITORS TOURNAMENT CONCLUDED Tire tournament was concluded with a social in the college hall last night, when the visitors were the guests of the college.
