The Minister for Internal Affaire (the Hon. J. A. Young) returns to Christchureh yesterday personally inspecting the deer destruction work being done in South Westland. Pastor Stuart Stevens has accepted the unanimous invitation of the Church of Christ, Moorhouse avenue, to remain as pastor for a further three years. Sympathy with Mr P. Campbell, of Wyndham. in his illness was expressed in a resolution carried by the New Zealand Sheep Breeders' Association last evening at its annual meeting. Mr Campbell is. a member of the council of the association. Mr W. M. Brookes, the retiring editor of the Canterbury College Students' Association's newspaper "Canta."' was met last night by members of his staff. A presentation was made in recognition of his past services. To fill the vacancy caused by the retirement of Canon J. de B. Galwey. the Rev. C E. Perry was elected an honorary canon of the Christchurch Cathedral at a joint meeting of the Cathedral Chapter and the standing committee on Tuesday night. Mr Perry was admitted at a meeting of the Cathedral Chapter yesterday afternoon. Mr K. Ovver, a member of the council of the North Canterbury Acclimatisation Society, announced at the meeting of the council last night that he would not be with them for the next 12 months, as he was leaving on a visit to England. The chairman (Mr F. Steans), on behalf of the council, wished Mr Ower an enjoyable trip and a safe return to New Zealand.

When an apology for the absence * of Mr W. C. Miller was received at last night's meeting of the council of the North Canterbury Acclimatisation Society, it was stated that some time ago Mr Miller met with an accident, and on behalf of the council the secretary (Mr C. W. Hervcy) had written expressing regret and offering sympathy. Mr Hcrvcy said that latest reports were that it would be at least three weeks before Mr Miller would have recovered. Reference to the death of Mr James Young was made at the meeting last night of the council of the North Canterbury Acclimatisation Society by Mr C. H. Lawrence, who said that Mr Young had been a very keen supporter of the society, and when they went into their new grounds he had given them advice on several occasions which they had taken. The chairman (Mr F. Steans) spoke to similar effect. A motion expressing sympathy with the relatives in their bereavement was carried, members standing.
