In the absence of Mr J. Stanton. Mr A. IYI. Carpenter was auctioneer, the financial results being very satisfactory. A gift'; stall under the auspices of the ladies' guild was well patronised. Items were contributed by Mesdames W. Maunder and Heald and Misses D. Avers and U. Dennis, Misses M. Stanton and D. Smitii. Messrs R. and 1,. Thwaitcs. The accompanists were Misses U. Dennis and Avers and Messrs A. Lane and W. Maunder. The Rev. S. Henderson presided, and thanked all who had helped to make the effort a success.

It was decided to cater for the luncheon and afternoon tea at the annual ewe fair at Coalgatc on Tuesday, tlie proceeds to be in aid of the I'resbyterian and Anglican churches, Gientunnel. The monthly meeting of the Glentunnel School Committee was held recently, Mr W. G. Smith presiding. It was reported that the roll number was 71 <3!) boys and 32 girls). Seven boys and five girls had been admitted and three boys and 10 girls had been withdrawn. The average attendance for tlie month was 67.5. The school had been visited recently by one of the Canterbury Education Board's inspectors.

[ CHEVIOT ! A meeting of the committee of the 'Cheviot Sports Club was held oil TucsIday night. The president (Mr A. S. [Murray'* was in the chair, and there were also present: Messrs A. B. Cock- • crell. G. H. Harrison. J. N. Cottrell, \V Petric, E. P. Honeybone, and F. H Upston. A letter was received from the North Canterbury Centre ol tho New Zealand Athletic, Cycling, and Axemen's Union congratulating tho club on the conduct and success of its recent meeting. Mr W. Potton forwarded a donation for the clubs funds. The centre wrote about the riding in the live-mile wheel race, and gave particulars of tho penalties that had been imposed, two riders being disqualified for nine months and two riders being lined. The centre left tho disposal of the prize money for this race in the hands of the Cheviot Club. The president reported that he had attended a meeting in Christcluirch to deal with the allegations of foul riding. Tho Cheviot Club had disqualified the riders for two years, but the meeting reduced the period of disqualification to nine months. Members expressed regret that the centre had not upheld the disqualification imposed by the club. It was decided to allot the prize money for the race to Rogerson first, Swan.«ton second, and Jones third. Swanston's protest was dismissed and his protest aeposit. was forfeited. The secretary presented a rough forecast of the financial result of the annual sports meeting.
