PRESS OF NEW ZEALAND

CONFERENCE AT HANiMER SPRINGS 'MORE DELEGATES ARRIVE Clouds overhanging Hanmer Springs yesterday did not interfere with the pleasures of the delegates 10 the annual Press Conference. Bain threatened from the south-west during the morning, but the afternoon was warm and still, and after <he meeting of the board of directors of the United Press Association of New Zealand the visitors at The Lodge found pleny to occupy them. Most of them made for the golf course, which is in fine condition after the recent rains, but others played tennis, walked on the hills, or visited the baths. Delegates, with their wives and iriends. are very pleased with the facilities at Hanmer Springs, and most of them believe it to be an ideal place for the conference. There is a large crowd staying at The Lodge—nearly 100 visitors, including those who are not connected with newspapers—and the fact that the delegates are able to meet and mingle throughout the day should pdd greatly to the value of their discussions. The personnel of the conference is nearly complete. A rumber arrived to-day and some are cxpecteci to-morrow. Attractive Resort Generally speaking, visitors in Hanmer Springs this summer have been foriunaie with the weather, and many from overseas particularly have been very favourably impressed with Canterbury's foremost health and holiday resort. The grounds at The Lodge and Queen Mary's Hospital have been improved, ;«r.d the gardens and lawns are at their brightest. Among the overseas visitors to The Lodge recently were Sir Philip Game and Ladv Game and Dr. A. E. \V. Hazel, of

Jesus College, Oxford, each of whom appreciated fully the attractions and beauties of Hanmer Springs.
