+ SCULLER CAPSIZES j INCIDENT AT WELLINGTON ! i.l'*E»S ASSOCIATION TELEOKAU.) | WELLINGTON. February 12. j During the Wellington rowing reI gatta on Saturday, A. K. Jackson (Wa- ) nganui Union Club) had just crossed j the finishing line half a length ahead j of P. Abbott (Petone) in the senior j singles when the latter capsized. He had had a particularly gruelling race, • and it was obvious his plight was seri- ! ous, as he was finding it exceedingly | difficult to support himself. j He managed to keep above water by holding on to the boat until T. LancasI ter, of the Wellington crew, which was | going out to start in the next race, dived in and held Abbott up until he j was taken aboard a nearby boat. ; Abbott stated he had been scullling j the last 100 yards in "blackness," and ! that at the sound of the gun he lost ! his balance. Lancaster's crew gained a popular j win in the next race.
