♦ GOVERNMENT'S REDUCED MAJORITY LONDON, February 9. The Cambridge by-election, necessitated by the elevation of Sir Douglas Newton to the peerage on January 1, resulted:— Lieutenant-Commander R. L. Tufnell (Conservative) .. 14,890 Dr. A. Wood (Labour) .. 12,176 Mr D. MacFadyen (Liberal) 2,023 [At the general election Sir Douglas Newton (Conservative) polled 23,347 votes, and Dr. Wood 8552.1
