TARIFF COMMISSION

CLOTHING TRADES IN GREAT BRITAIN (I'RESS ASSOCUTIOIT ?BLl<J*ili.) WELLINGTON, February 10. A long statement rebutting allegations concerning wages and conditions in the clothing industry of Great Britain was presented to the Tariff Commission to-day by Mr G. O. Sutton, on behalf of the Wholesale Clothing Manufacturers' Federation of Great Britain, and affidavits were furnished on behalf of a number of manufacturing concerns. The information obtained from the Ministry of Labour of Great Britain, and presented to the commission, was to the effect that the Board of Trade Acts 1909 and 1918 had been applied to practically all branches of the clothing trades in Gceat Britain, and the minimum rates of wages laid down applied to all workers in these trades. Further evidence relating to British articles, including children's footwear, gas meters, and tooth brushes was also presented.
