THE MONETARY INVESTIGATION
TO THE »r>.[TOB. OF THE PRESS. Sir,—lt is of great interest to know that the Parliamentary committee to consider the monetary enquiry will commence on Tuesday. It is also interesting to notice the remarks of the Prime Minister on the subject. Mr Forbes makes it plain that the present monetary system, which has so obviously broken down, will not be enquired into; but systems which have not been tried and are not on defence will be more closely examined. The Labour party leader rightly protests against this order of reference. The Douglas Social Credit Movement of New Zealad sent a deputation to the Prime Minister on December 14, IiMJ, which requested "that a select committee of the House be set up to investigate the present money system and possible alternatives thereto, was a member o£ that deputation, and it was made quite clear at the time (hat if the committee found there was no fault with the present system, there would be no point in examining alternatives. Mr Forbes agreed to the committee's being set up and this was announced on December 22. The corstitution of the committee has been altered several limes and the orcia of reference is not in any way that desired by the deputation, to jveuest the Prime Minister appears to'have needed. Mr Forbes appears o be concerned that those desiring m . alteration cannot have their views investigated. He has no cause 10 worry on that score: the public u> vcs° '<atin S the alternatives for Uself, being convinced that the existi„g monetary system is eftetc. Th concern is all on the side of the stal warts of the existing system, as will be seen by a widespread flood of counter-publicity which w» '"CVU ably follow Major Douglass mcctm o on " TllCSdoy^AT S R.ALLABDYCE.
