BICYCLE COLLAPSES
Leslie Adams, of Tai Tapu, was riding a bicycle a.long Saunders road, Tai Tapu, yesterday evening, when his machine collapsed and he was thrown to the ground. When he was admitted to the Christchurch Public Hospital shortly after 9 o'clock, he | was unconscious from head injuries but his condition late last evening was reported as satisfactory. SWEPT OUT OF DEPTH IJ'iESS AS3OCIJTIOK TELEGRAM.> HAWERA, February 10. Swept out of her depth in a heavy surf, a sixteen-year-old girl, Ivy Caroline Bloor, the daughter of Mr B. Bloor, of Manaia, was drowned at the Kaupokonui beach yesterday. The girl and a companion, Joyce Havill, were washed into a deep hole and caught by the strong under-current. The girl Bloor was carried out into the breakers, but her companion was luckily washed ashore. The body was recovered shortly afterwards. At an inquest this morning, the coroner, Mr Sage, returned a formal finding that death was due to drowning. He issued a warning to swimmers against taking risks on the open coast, especially during a season such at the present, when sudden changes of weather made the currents treach-
[ crous. 1 FATAL INJURIES (PRESS ASSOCIATION' TELECiSAII.) I GREYMOUTH, February 11. Charles Williams, aged 60, was fatally injured or. the road near Nelson Creek shortly after noon to-day. He was evidently lying asleep on the road when he was run over by a motor-car driven by Alan Bell, a mill hand, of Haupiri. Williams died while he was being taken to the Grey Hospital. He was formerly a seaman, but had been gold prospecting for 12 months near Nelson Creek.
