A small consignment of Fiji bananas came to hand yesterday and realised from 14s to 16s a case. DUNEDIN (rRr.qS AS.JOI'IATHIN- TRI.EC.KAM.) DUNEDIN, February 9. Supplies of Gravenstcin apples have not been so plentiful as previously, and the market is a little firmer. Cox's Orange Pippins are increasing in supply from the Nelson district, and realising good values. Cooking apples have a better demand. Bon Chretien pears are in heavy supply, mainly from Nelson, and there is a good demand.

The particularly hot weather early in the week caused severe losses to fruit growers, and tomatoes, peaches, and apricots reached the market in an over-ripe condition, causing agents to quit stocks at very low rates. Very heavy supplies of Nelson tomatoes also had a bad effect on the market, and even choice quality fruit was being offered at very low rates, and was hard to place during the week. The colder weather now being experienced may result in a firmer market next week.

Apricots are almost finished, and it is unfortunate that the hot weather ?hould have compelled growers to market their remaining supplies in the course of a few days. Burbank plums, which have been in heavy supply from Canterbury, are now easing off, and there is an improved demand. There is a strong demand for true English greengages, but many lines are j coming to hand labelled "greengages." '. though they are really yellow plums, ■ and they have to be sold accordingly. i Loganberries are almost finished for ! the season, and have a good demand. ! Raspberries are still offering, and those i of poor quality are hard to place. A shipment of Rarotongan bananas ' arrived during the week in good condition. A small quantity of Californian oranges and lemons was aboard the same steamer. Both these lines are high in price. A shipment of Fiji bananas will arrive early next week. FURNITURE SALE X. If.
