CHAMPIONSHIPS AT NAPIER A yood record was set by J. P. Far,e)l of Hie licrctaunga Swimming Club m the Hawke's Bay-Poverty Bay provincial swimming championships at Napier on February 5 and 6. Mr Farrell is a son of Mr John Farrcll. who is at present in Christchurch representing .T. C. Williamsons, Ltd. During the first evening of the championships Farrell set a new record for the men's 50 yards race his timei being "5 9-SSCC one second better than the previous time. On the following evening he won the men's 100 yards race iui 59 l-ssec, 2 2-ssec inside the best Hawke's Bay figures for that distance He came third in the men's 220 yards race which was won in record time, and was first man in the Heretaunga learn that won the teams' race for the Swain Cup in the record time of 4mm 14 2-sscc 2 3-ssec better than the record set by lite Gisborne Club a year ago. MANY OFFICIALS CRITICISM OF COV NCI L There has been adverse criticism of fhe number of officials appointed by the New Zealand Swimming Council at its meeting on Thursday night. A full list of nominations was submitted by the Canterbury centre, which will control the meeting, but this was altered and enlarged to an extent which has caused indignation among some of the centre's officials.
