ROAD PAVING

WORK IX CANTERBURY The work of scaling certain highways in Canterbury will be put in hand as soon as tenders have been approved by the Highways Board. Tenders closed yesterday with the Levels County Council for the bituminous scaling of that part of the Picton-BIuIT highway between Timaru and the Pareora bridge, approximately three miles and a half. The Ashburton county and borough councils have received tenders for the sealing of part of the Ashburton-Methven highway, about one mile and a half. Tenders are being invited for the sealing of that part of the PictonBluir highway from Lcithfield to the Waipara river; eight miles and three-quarters. Specifications have been prepared for the paving of the highway from the Halswell Post Office to Tai Tapu and have been submitted to the Highways Board, which has requested that, certain amendments be made. It should be possible for tenders for the work to be called at an early date. The distance is five miles and a half. It was reported at the meeting of the Heathcote County Council last night that the proposal to seal the surface of Wainoni road had been referred to the Highways Board for its approval.
