STORMY WEATHER
* SOUTH-WEST GALE OVEIi PROVINCE Showery, squally weather with intermittent falls of rain throughout the day made residents of Christchurch and the province of Canterbury as a whole apprehensive that the first signs of wintry weather had made their appearances.
At Akavoa very little was seen of the sun all day. Though the rain was never very heavy, it was never very far away, and in the evening black clouds told of further storms approaching. A heavy sea was riming, and a biting wind blew from the south-west. Other country districts had similar weather. No damage was reported from the country and none was apparent in town. In the Oxford and Methven districts fears were expressed owing to delays to harvesting, but as most of the wheat is in stook it should suffer little or no damage. Methven appears to be in the middle of a wet spell, as rain has fallen there on Tuesday, Wednesday, and yesterday, the total fall from Tuesday morning being more than 60 points.
