APPOINTMENT OF ARCHDEACON
DEAN JULIUS CHOSEN The Bishop of Christchurch, Dr. Campbell West-Watson, has announced the appointment of Dean Julius to the Archdeaconry of Christchurch, made vacant by the departure of Archdeacon Haggitt. Dean. Julius will relinquish the Archdeaconry of Rangiora and Westland which he now holds. The Bishop hopes to institute Dean Julius with the new vicar of Merivale, the Rev. A. K. Warren, at St. Mary's Church this evening.
The Venerable Archdeacon John Awdry Julius is a son of Archbishop Julius and was born in England in 1874. He was educated at the Melbourne Grammar School, Christ's College, Christchurch, and Oxford, where he graduated Master of Arts. He was curate of Kettering, England, for three years, but apart from that the whole of his life's work has been in New Zealand. His present appointment is his third Archdeaconry, as he was appointed Archdeacon of Timaru and Westland in 1922, and of Rangiora and Westland in 1927. He was appointed vicargeneral for the Bishop of Christchurch in 1928.
