WAR MEMORIAL

+ COMMITTEE INCORPORATED AS AN ASSOCIATION PROBABLE EARLY START WITH THE WORK h The statutory resolutions neces- , sary to effect the incorporation of a the Christchurch War Memorial t Committee were passed at a meet--3 ing of that body yesterday, and the f committee, as a committee, will ■ cease to exist, but its functions will " be exercised by the Christchurch War Memorial Association (Incor- „ porated). Mr George Gould, who * was chairman of the committee, is s chairman of the incorporated association, and Mr C. H. Clemens its - secretary and treasurer. ; The way is now clear for the asso--5 ciation to enter into an agreement for the carrying out of the accepted design, that in which Mr G. A. J. Hart, of Messrs Hart and Reese, architects, collaborated with Mr W. T. Trethewey, sculptor. It is understood that this will be done at an early date. Some alterations have been made in the original design as pictured and described in the issue of "The Press" for June 16, 1933, and these have yet to be approved by the committee of the Cathedral Chapter to which plans for the memorial have been referred. The memorial is to be erected on the northern part of the Cathedral precincts, and is to face Cathedral square. A supply of bluestone has been obtained for the platform, paving, steps, and walling of the memorial. This work, together with the erection of the cross, it is hoped to ; complete in six months, but it is i anticipated that the whole memorial will take about two years to complete, as it is intended to have the statuary cast in Europe.
