* MAGISTRATE'S COURT ' ! SPECIAL. TO THE ?£LESB., GREYMOUTH, February ti. Mr H. Morgan, S.M., presided over the sitting of the Magistrate's Court at Grcymouth yesterday. A further remand for a week was r-ranted, on the application of the police, in the case in which Llewellyn John Williams, 31, was charged with at Blakctown on January 31 unlawfully assaulting Elizabeth Jessie Williams. . , The following fines were imposed in traffic cases:—Driving a motorlorry without a driver's license, Lloyd Ilton, 10s and costs; driving an unlicensed motor-lorry, Edward Morgan, £1 and costs; driving without a driver's license, Harry Stagg, 10s and costs. A fine of 10s and costs was imposed on Patrick Devlin, who was charged with failing to register ownership of a rifle. Motor Accident. A collision at the intersection of Guinness and Herbert streets. Greymouth, yesterday morning, between a car driven by Mr H. Melville and a motor-cycle driven by Mr C. Watson fortunately resulted in no one being injured. The motor-cyclist jumped from his machine just before the moment of impact, but his machine, which was dragged for some distance, was extensively damaged. Strike of Unemployed. • Approximately 300 relief workers in Greymouth, Blackball, Brunner, and Cobden refused work yesterday in accordance with the instructions to strike from the national council of the Unemployed Workers' Movement. It is claimed by the men that 95 per cent, of the relief workers in the district affected arc on strike. Relief workers in West land and Bullcr districts not. affiliated, with any outside organisation have not ceased work. The members of the No. 2 camp at Charleston are on strike. Collections are to be made by the relief workers on strike, and a temporary relief dep'ol is to be opened. Cricket. The following four Greymouth players have been selected to play for the Ashburton eleven in the match against the visiting Australian side:— C. W. E. Rcstieaux, O. J. Morris, J. Hcasley, and W. H. McLaughlin. Their inclusion in the side is the result of an invitation from Ashburton. The match will be played on February 27 and 28. Competition matches in both A and R grades were advanced a stage further under perfect weather conditions on Saturday. Marist, leaders in the competition, drew with United at the Recreation Ground. Marist declared with six wickets down for 182 (O. Morris 50, Casey 55), and United had lost eight wickets for the small tolal of 01 when stumps were drawn, Heasley contributing 27. Casey, live for 18, and Matthews, .three for 12, bowled well for Marist.

Cobden A gained a two-point victory over Rtinanga by 41 inns on the first innings. Runanga, batting first, could only score 81, to which Cobden B replied with 125 (Clarke 30). Runanga made 127 in the second innings (Greening SO'), and Cobden had on 48 runs for Ihe loss of five wickets when stumps were drawn.

Brunner gained a three-point victory over Star by an innings and 74 runs. Brunner declared with live down lor 233 Uloggarlh 11!)>, and Slar marie 5!) in ...e first innings and 100 in the second. L. Hunt, six for 13. llogg'.ulh, five for 52, and H. Hunt, four for 17 (taken on both innings), bowled well lor Brunner. Amalgamation Hitch.

An obstacle that, has arisen to the amalgamation of the Greymouth borough and Cobden is the question of rating. Ihe Government having ruled that there shall be no differentiation in nil ing in Ihe Iwo districts. The question will be discussed al a meeting of the Cobden Town Board tomorrow. It is suggested that the Mayor i.Mr J. W. Grecnsladei and the chairman of the Cobden Town Board (Mr A. H. Mi-Kane) should proceed to Wellington in an endeavour to have the matter adjusted. Railway Picnic. More than 1500 persons attended Ihe annual railway picnic, which was held at Te Kinga. The weather was perfect, and an enjoyable sports programme was held.
