Complaint;; by Hawera residents of the low pressure of the borough water .supply have recently been the subject of investigation by the council staff, ancl it; lias been found that almost invariably the cause was due to corrosion in the service pipe from the mains to the house. In most cases the service pipes had been laid down many years ago, and they had been almost completely blocked through corrosion. A short section of pipe removed from a service a few days ago was a typical example of the effects of corrosion. The length (a half-jnch bore) permitted only a mere trickle of water to pass, as it was practically closed with a thick encrustation of rust for its entire length. In each case, it has been found that the fitting of a new service pipe resulted in a marked improvement in the pressure.
