SYDENHAM RELIEF DEPOT

The Sydenham Relief Depot in Walton street, which has been distributing rations for the last six months, has now closed for the summer months, and the recipients of relief have been transferred to other depots. During the period of the depot's operations 7914 applicants, representing 16,290 adults and 13,150 children, have been given rations. The highest number of families receiving weekly rations was 592 in July, and the lowest number 177 in November. The average of the weekly applicants was 305. In addition to the usual rations, a special Christmas ration was given to applicants who did not receive Rotary Club hampers. At the final meeting of the workers of the depot, the manager, the Rev. Lawrence Rogers, expressed his warm appreciation of the whole-hearted co-operation and the willing sacrifices given to the depot by the helpers. He paid a special tribute to the work of Mr W. Pirrett, the records clerk, and to the secretary (Mr Cox).
