The impending construction of the new Rangitata railway bridge has necessitated the removal of the telephone lines on the old bridge from one side to the othei. 'he work was carried out by the and Telegraph Department recently, a temporary interruption cable being laid over the bridge to carry the telephone service while the lines were moved. Altogether, about 10 miles of wire was handled, as the bridge is half a mile long and 20 wires are used in the service.
