WOMEN'S INSTITUTES

WILLOWBY-EIFFELTON A large gathering of members of the Willowby-Efffelton Women's Institute met at "Haeremai." Willowby, where a garden pirty was held in ideal j surroundings and in perfect weather, j Among the guests were the children of institute members and their friends. Mrs R. Pearce (president) welcomed the visitors and asked Mrs G. H. B. S Lill to open the garden party. Clock j golf, croquet, and other games and competitions caused the afternoon to pass quickly. For the children the chief attractions were a large Christmas tree laden with toys, a nut hunt, and an ice-cream stand. A vote of thanks was passed to Mr and Mrs G. H. B. Lill for the use of their grounds, and Margaret Quinn presented Mrs Pearce with a bouquet. DUVAUCHELLE The monthly meeting of the Duvauchell Women's Institute was held in the club room, Mrs Brocherie presiding. A parcel of Christmas gifts, the work of disabled soldiers, was on the sales table, and a good business resulted. The aggregate points prizes were given by Mrs Brocherie and were presented to Mesdames Haylock and Weir. The president and helpers gave an enjoyable afternoon's entertainment. Community singing, shortstory telling, and a play reading were given. The hostesses were Mesdames Lewthwaile, W. Giddens, Haylock, and Haines. TIM'ARU NEWS SOCIAL AND PERSONAL Mrs H. J. G- Kerr at their camp at the river. Misses Louie and Muriel Waugh (Christchurch) are s.aying with Mrs A. P. Waugh ("."hite street). Miss Marjorie Gibson (Elizabeth street) is visiting Christchurch. Mr and Mrs Harolu (Craigmore) are the guests of Mrs F. S. Batchelor at Waitati. Mr and Mrs - W. Lynch (Church street) have left on a trip south. Miss Colyer (Christchurch) is the guest of Miss Shanks (Elizabeth street). The Rev. and Mrs W. E. Davies (Fairlie) are occupying the house of Mr and Mrs Sinclair-Thomson in Park lane. Mr and Mrs J. J. Heasley and Miss Marjorie Heasley (Nelson terrace) have gone to Christchurch on a visit. Mr and Mrs Reginald F. E. Fillies (Kelburn, Wellington) are staying with Mrs Fildes's parents, Mr and Mrs James Craigie ("Craigielea," Kingsdown, Timaru). Mrs Walter Raymond is on a visit to Moeraki. Miss Frances Wheeler (Christchurch) is staying at Peel Forest. Mr and Mrs W. S. Blaikic (Sealy street) are visiting vVanaka. Recent guests at the Grosvenor Hotel included Mr and Mrs W. F.
