MAGISTRATE'S COURT
SATURDAY. (Before Mr H. P. Lawry, S.M.) RIDING WITHOUT A LIGHT. For riding a bicycle at night without a light Kenneth Schram, who made a voluntary appearance, was fined 15s and costs. MAINTENANCE. Michael Joseph O'Leary, aged 32 years, a seaman, was charged with failing to provide adequate maintenance for his wife, Patricia O'Leary, who was represented by Mr H. S. Goodman. Mr Goodman stated that O'Leary had promised to pay £1 a week, and the magistrate'allowed costs to Mrs O'Leary. DRUNKENNESS. George Wilson, aged 38 years, a labourer, residing at Sockburn, was charged with breaking a prohibition order and with being drunk in Moorhouse avenue. To Sub-Inspector G. B. Edwards accused stated that he had had no beer, but had drunk a small bottle of eucalyptus as he had had a bad cold. Wilson was fined 10s and costs, in default 24 hours' imprisonment for drunkenness, and on the charge of breaking the prohibition order was fined £2 and costs, in default 48 hours' imprisonment. Two statutory first offenders for drunkenness, who were arrested with Wilson, were each fined 10s and costs, in default 24 hours' imprisonment. CHILDREN'S COURT. (Before Mr H. A. Young, S.M.. Mrs T. Green. J.P., and Mr L. M. Wr-st. J.P.) A boy aged 15 years was placed under the supervision of the Child Welfare Officer for two years for indecently assaulting a girl aged eight years.
