GALA ON SUNDAY
I'ROTEST BY MINISTERS (special to the ritßss.) WESTPORT, December 8. A protest against a proposal to hold a life-saving demonstration and a gala on a Sunday during the forthcoming jubilee celebrations of the borough of Westport has been entered by the Westport Ministers' Association. The ministers held a meeting to discuss the matter, and decided to make a protest. It was also regretted that no arrangements had been made for a combined church service during the celebrations. The resolution passed read: "That the ministers of Westport place on record their emphatic protest against the proposal to hold a life-saving demonstration and a gala day on the last Sunday of this year. They note with alarm the present tendency to make the Lord's Day an occasion for sport and pleasure, instead of a day of rest and worship. Further, that they express their regret that no arrangements have, been made for a combined church service to mark the jubilee, such as is done in other parts of the Dominion."
