RELIEF WORKERS' COMPLAINTS
After a deputation of three Kapaki relief workers had waited on the director of the central relief depot (Mr T. H. Cape-Williamson) and the chairman and secretary of the metropolitan relief association i Messrs George Harper and V. E. French) yesterday morning with a request for assistance following changes recently made by the Unemployment Board, arrangements v/ere made for a large number of men to be provided with necessities at Ihe depot. The men will lay their grievances before the unemployment relief committee on Monday. Mr A. Blance. who headed the deputation, said that four weeks ago the Public Works Department decided to restore the 10 per cent. cut. but the Unemployment Board had stepped in and stopped it. The men were infoimed that they would work nine weeks on the restored wage and stand down on the tenth week. The Unemployment Board held again stepped in and they were informed that the thiee, three and a half, and four-day men would lose one day this week Next week the four-day men wou'd Jose another day, together with the two and two and a half dav men The Ihree-day men should have received 30s, but only received £l.
