A PROLIFIC SOW
36? PIGS IN 20 LITTERS
Farm papers to hand from England state that the world's most prolific sow —"of that there is no possible doubt" —farrowed her 20th litter on September 12 with a litter of 14 pigs, bringing her total number farrowed to 367. The sow is a Large White, 10 years 9 months old, being farrowed in January, 1923, and producing her first litter on December 12 of the same year. She is owned by Mr Harry S. Pedlingham, Hardwicke, near Malvern. The details of the farrowings are worth recording:— December 12, 1923, 12; June 15, 1924, 24; December 28, 1924, 18; June 11, 1925, 15; December 25, 1925, 19; June 24, 1926, 18; January 2, 1927, 16; July 3, 1927, 19; January 5, 1928, 19; June 29, 1928, 22; January 4, 1929, 21; July 19, 1929, 21; January 1, 1930. 24; July 13, 1930, 21; December 29, 1930, 20; June 30, 1931, 16; January 4, 1932, 14; July 2, 1932, 18; January 8, 1933, 16; September 23, 1933, 14—total, 367.
