SCHOOL PRIZES

ST. ANDREW'S COLLEGE BREAK-UP OF JUNIOR SCHOOL Many parents and friends of the college were entertained by the pupils at the break-up of the junior school of St. Andrew's College yesterday afternoon. An interesting programme was given by the junior boys and a play, "Robin Hood," was presented by the boys of the preparatory school dramatic club. The prizes were presented lav the chairman of the Board of Governors, the Rev. J. Lawson Robinson. The headmaster (Mr A. K. Anderson; welcomed the visitors and expressed appreciation of the interest taken in the school activities by parents. He paid a tribute to the work of Miss 1.. A. C. Rogers, the junior schoolmistress, who, he said, had been working under difficulties owing to the small number of senior pupils in her school of 28. He mentioned that the first sons of old boys to enter the college were this year pupils in the junior school.

Thc Rev. J. Lawson Robinson congratulated the junior school on the results of the year's work. The headmaster's good opinion of Miss Rogers, he said, was shared by the Board of Governors, who realised that in her the college possessed not only a highlytrained teacher but one who had the faculty of making a friend of every boy. The very happiest relations existed between the teacher and pupils. Mr Robinson appealed to parents to keep the boys in the college throughout their school life. "The success of the college depends wi our having the boys from the beginning of their school life to the end. The maintenance of the credit and traditions of the college depends on this, for it is only by having complete control of their education that we can inculcate in them those ideals and principles of .which we are justly proud." He mentioned that the junior school's record this year was particularly line in that not only had there been 100 per cent, successes by Standard VI. pupils in the proficiency examination, but three boys from Standard V. had also gained their certificates.

Miss Rogers thanked the parents for the support they had given her during the year. She said she was convinced that a private primary department was essential to the success of such a large school as St. Andrew's College. The boys, she said, enjoyed a great privilege in being under such a principal as Mr Anderson, to whom she was very grateful for the understanding he always showed of the mind of the very small boy. A presentation of a wicker tray was made to Mrs Anderson by the boys, who also made a small presentation to the headmaster. 'l'lin programme presented b.v Hie boys was as follows: —Hymns (a) "Give.
