COMMITTEES OF CITY COUNCIL

MEMBERS' ATTENDANCES An interesting table in the report of the Town Clerk (Mr J. S. Neville) gives the average attendance of members of the City Council at meetings of the standing committees. The number on each committee (excluding the Mayor, who is, ex officio, a member of all committees) is seven. The lowest average attendance during 1932-33 was of members of the town planning, housing, and health committee, which held 19 meetings, the average attendance being three. The other committees make a better showing; the reserves (21 meetings), the art gallery (6), and the finance (33) committees each had an average attendance of six; and the baths and entertainments (5), electricity (23), and the works committees each had an average attendance of five. In previous reports the attendance of each councillor at meetings of the council and of the committees of which he was a member was set out and in 1931-32 Cr. F. T. Evans scored 100 per cent, of attendances, Cr, J. W. Beanland being a close second with 99 per cent.
