To be besieged by bees was the experience of an Auckland Harbour Board official recently. Just before lunch time, the official, who is in charge of the weighbridge office at the entrance to King's wharf, was attracted by a persistent buzzing, and found a large number of bees swarming just outside the door. The air was thick with them and, even at the risk of spending his lunch hour in captivity, the official did not dare leave his office for fear the swarm would settle on him. He communicated his plight to other Harbour Board officials, and an apiarist was summoned by telephone. The expert in handling bees calmly brushed the swarm into a jibox to transport it to a hive in the Lfuburhs.
