THE GOVERNOR-GENERAL
♦ The Governor-General, Lord Bledisloe, and Lady Bledisloo, who have been staying at Hanmer Springs, left yesterday on their return journey, via Kaikoura, to Wellington. Their Excellencies, who were accompanied by Lieutenant J. C. Elworthy, A.D.C.. were given an enthusiastic farewell at Hanmer, and then journeyed through Waikari, Scargill, and Tipapa to Cheviot. At Scargill and Tipapa a brief stop was made at the public schools, and his Excellency spoke to the children. Their Excellencies lunched at Tipapa, and arrived at Cheviot at 3.30 p.m., where they were guests at a civic reception, and later at afternoon tea. They left about 5 p.m. for Kaikoura. .-topping about three miles out of Cheviot, at "Crystal Brook," th 3 farm of the Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon. G. W. Forbes, whose home was recently destroyed by fire. Their Excellencies inspected portions of the farm, and what remains of the homestead being conducted over chi; place by the Prime Minister's son, Mr Robert Forbes. Their Excellencies spent the night at Kaikoura, where a public reception will be held at 11 a.m. to-day, after which their Excellencies will leave for Picton. There they will remain until Saturday afternoon, when they will leave for Wellington
