The death of Mr Edgar Jones has recalled the fact that during the war period the Christchurch branch of the Overseas Club undertook to raise funds for the purchase of an aeroplane for presentation to the Bruish War Oliicc. Although Uie project secm-d hopeless in view of the many calls beuig made on the liberality of the citizens, it was gone on with, and ultimately the required £ISOO was raised, which enabled the one hundredth and first aeroplane to be presented to the War Office. Mr Edgar Jones was largely responsible for the success attained. His first contribution was £IOO, and in order to complete the required amount this was increased 10 a total of £350 or £4OO.
