AMBERLEY HOUSE SCHOOL

ATHLETIC SPORTS Yesterday the Amberley House Girls' Collegiate School held its annual sports on the school playing field, which was in excellent condition. The programme commenced at 130, and the events were run off promptly under the direction of the sports mistress, who was helped by several parents and friends in time-keeping and judging. There was considerable competition for the senior, junior, and house cups, and the record for the high jump was broken by Lyndsey Thomson, who cleared 4ft 71 in. At the end of the programme, the visitors were entertained at afternoon tea in the dining room, after which Mrs A. E. Flower presented the cups. The winner of the senior cup was Joan Hay. and the runner-up L. Thomson. The junior cup was won by Nan Newton, with K. Rutherford runner-up, and the Lower School Cup by Jocelyn Robinson, with B. Maiden runner-up. The House Cup is presented on the total results of the swimming and athletic sports, and on the former, held at the beginning of this year, Rutherford House was leading by 36' points. The result of the athletic sports was:—Rutherford 94. McKellar 130, thus making the result a tie.
