BURGESSES MEET
ADDINGTON ASSOCIATION The monthly meeting of the Addington Burgesses* Association was held last night, the president, Mr B. Sloan, being in the chair. There was a good attendance. A letter was received from the District Railway Engine.r stating that no objections would be made by the Railway Department if the City Council planted shrubs between the railway track and the metalled part of Dry den street. Mr T. Falkiuder stated that the reserves committee of the council had been written to asking its co-opera-tion in having this site beautifed. The chairman remarked that it was quite probable that the work would be carried out, and this was supported by Mr E. Parlane, who moved that the Railway Department should again be written to asking it to trench the land ready for the next planting season. The motion was carried. The Post and Telegraph Department promised to enquire into the secretary's suggestion that as the inadequate lighting of the lobby of the Addington Post Office was causing much inconvenience to residents, an automatic light should be installed which could, if necessary, be turned off aiter 10 p.m. The "wretched" condition of Burke street was criticised by Mr Parlane. "It is almost the main thoroughfare from Addington to Opawa," he stated, "and several residents are complaining of its condition." Another member complained that Disraeli street had not been in a worse condition for 40 years than it was in at present. It was agreed to bring the condition of these streets before the notice of the council. The chairman said that the train rails in the level crossing at Selwyn street were in some places six inches above the ground, and it was decided to ask the Railway Department to look into the matter.
