MR ULM'S FAST FLIGHT
- —❖ CALCUTTA REACHED RECORD TIME SO FAR .Received October 16. 10.50 p.m.) CALCUTTA, October 16. Mr C. T. P. Ulm, in the aeroplane Faith in Australia, arrived here at 11.30 a.m. to-day. He had left Karachi at 5.30 last evening. He landed at Karachi ahead of Sir Charles Kingsford-SmiUVs time. having flown from England in two days, 14 minutes.
IMr C. T. P. Ulm, with Mr G. U. Allen and Mr P. G. Taylor as assistant pilots .vid navigators, left Sydney on June 21 last in the Faith in Australia, an Avro Ten monoplane with three Wright Whirlwind engines, with the intention of breaking the record from Australia to England, but he had so much engine trouble on the way that, instead of taking eight days, he was 20 days on the journey, arriving at Heston on July 10. He had the machine overhauled and reconditioned in England, and contemplated making an Atlantic flight, abandoning this idea because helpful weather was not likely to be met lor some time. 1
KINGSFORD-SMITH'S PLANS
PROMOTION OF SI'KVK'H IN DOMINION SYDNEY. October l(j. Sir Charles Kingsford-Smith says he is looking forward to his forthcoming flight, across the Tasman at the end of this year. Despite rumours to the contrary he is definitely sponsoring the flight to New Zealand of the twin-engined monoplane now being built in Sydney. This monoplane will iiy in company with the Southern Cross and'be flown by Mr T. W. White, of Timaru. Sir Charles Kingsford-Smith says that in his opinion the new monoplane is the right type for use in a national air service in the Dominion, and he is completing plans to promote an aviation company with. New Zealand capital in which he will lake an active _ interest. This monoplane is specially designed to suit New Zealand conditions.
