SHIP SINKS IN HURRICANE
Twenty-One Lives Lost TRAGEDY OFF AMERICAN COAST (UNITED PHE9S ASSOCIATION—f.Y ELECTEIC TELEGBAPU—COPYRIGHT.) (Received October 13, 8.10 p.m.) PHILADELPHIA, October 12. Twenty-one lives were lost when the Greek steamer Annoula sank in a hurricane off the North Carolina coast on Saturday, according to five survivors who landed from a rescue vessel to-day. Captain George Couvielos and four members of the crew were picked up in a lifeboat on Sunday by the steamer Montello, 110 miles north-west of Bermuda, after drifting for 60 miles. Captain Couvielos said he had just jailed to the radio operator on Saturday morning to send an S.O.S. message when mountainous waves swept over the ship, throwing him into the sea. There he and two others were picked up by two sailors who had managed to get into one of the ship's lifeboats. All the other members of the crew were drowned.
