GOVERNMENT AND CONVERSION
TO TUB EDITOR Off THE I'TIESS. Sir,—Your leading article this morning is to the point and to be commended. It was exceedingly disappointing to find Mr Forbes indicating that the Government was not greatly concerned regarding debt conversion on a wide scale. One would have hoped the London money market would have been approached for a total conversion of overseas indebtedness. If the British Government can go to America to discuss her debts, there seems no earthly reason why British dominions like New Zealand should not put up their position and seek immediate relief. This is a thing that every chamber of commerce, farmers'
union, and every trades union in New Zealand should advocate aa a benefit to all parties concerned. There should be no division of opinion regarding this matter.—Yours, etc., ' CHAS. OGILVIE. _ October 5, 1933.
