PERSONAL NOTES FROM LONDON

(I'HOII OU2 OWK CORRESPONDENT.) LONDON, September 2. Mr W. Fraser Edmond (Dunedin) has, during the last month, been touring Scotland by motor-car, returning via the English lake district I and Wales. After a visit to France he will have a few weeks more in London before leaving for Canada and the United States on his return journey. Mr I. A. Ewen (Lower Hutt) will begin his course at Cambridge in October. During the last three months he has been visiting Scotland, Devonshire, and the Continent, and has been doing a certain amount of business. Mr Gordon S. Reid (Hamilton) has taken advantage of the quiet times prevailing in New Zealand to come to Europe and have a general brush-up in the latest improvements in the architectural world. The duration of his stay is at present indefinite. Mr G. M. Easton (Auckland), after his arrival in England, was again unwell, and ordered by a specialist to report to Osborne House, Isle of Wight, for treatment. For three months he has been an inmate at King Edward's Convalescent Home at Osborne, and is now awaiting the result of a medical board. During Cowes Week, the King and Queen paid their official visit to Osborne, accompanied by the Duke and Duchess of York. Flying Officer F. Crump (Auckland) has been posted to the Royal Air Force base, Calshot. Lieutenant E. W. J. Bankes, R.N., has -been lent to the New Zealand Division for three years (August 25). Dr. W. Graham Scroggie, a wellknown divine and writer, who has been one of Edinburgh's outstanding preachers for the last 17 years, has retired owing to ill-health. Dr. Scroggie is going to New Zealand shortly, and after the health benefits of the voyage he hopes to be able to occupy the pulpit of Tabernacle Church, Auckland, for six months. Mr Frank Watt (Dunedin) Ms arrived with the intention of making a study of grand opera in England, and he hopes to become attached to one of the companies later on. At present he is staying at Fraserburgh, Aberdeenshire, with his relatives, and he expects to spend a few months there. Mr Watt lias planned to be in Britain for about two years, and then to go back to New Zealand. He was a passenger by the last trip of the Jervis Bay, which came via Suez.
