Corby has taken command of the Kartigi, which recommissioned at Wellington on Monday, and his deck officers are:—Chief, Mr T. A. MacPherson; second, Mr T. A. Mack; third, Mr J. D. Crighton. The retirement is announced of Mr Andrew Ritchie Guy from the service of the Union Company. Mr Guy was born on May 3, 1870, at Dumbarton, Scotland, and joined the Union Company on December 18, 1899, after serving for nine years and a half with Denny and Company. His first post was as third engineer of the Pateena, and after serving in various capacities for some considerable time he was appointed chief engineer of the Kaituna in March, 1913. He was subsequently chief engineer of the Kaitoke, Karitane. Kanna, Kokiri. Kamona, Kiwitea, Koranui, and Kalingo. At the time of his retirement he was acting as chief engineer of the Koranui. Mr Guy will probably be living in retirement at Sydney. Captain R. M. Kane took command of the Maori at Wellington on Tuesday, relieving Captain B. B. Irwin, who will stand by the Wahine during overhaul. Mr N. H. Pearson has joined the R.M.S. Makura as second officer, relieving Mr G. H. Kime for orders. Mr S. H. Crawford joined the Makura as third officer when the vessel was last in Sydney. The Lyttelton ferry steamer Wahine, which has been laid up during the winter, came off the Wellington floating dock this afternoon, and will reenter the ferry service next Monday. The Rangatira will be withdrawn and laid up for overhaul, resuming again on October 25. On October 25 the Maori will- pay off, and will lay up at Wellington over the summer months.
