MINING

WAIHI COMPANY The assays of the ore exposed in the development work at the Waihi mine for the month of August are as follows: No. 13 Level—ls 5d to 16s 6d a ton; No. 12, 29s 2d; No. 11, 44s 8d; No. 9, 43s 6d; No. 5, lis lOd; No. 2, 74s 3d; No. 3, 9s 9d and IBs sd. TALISMAN DUBBQ REPORT The mine manager's report for the week ending September 30 states:— During the week ending September 30 stoping was continued over the back of No. 1 Talisman level. The reef is disturbed and broken at this point, but is improving in the back of the stope. The reef is 18 inches wide and is of very fair value. Over 40 tons of °re are broken ready to be sent to the battery, and it is of good value. GOLCONDA MINES The mine manager reports that during the week the following work has been carried out:— We have continued stoping on the branch reef south: the reef has pinched somewhat, but is now changing into its proper underlie, on a splice. We anticipate better values when the reef makes again on the top portion of the splice. This should occur in the next stope. Next week we will start a stone on the junction of the three different reefs north and south, and start a drive on the hanging wall branch of the main reef going east.

Mr John Kilkenny, Mayor of Westport, sent the following telegram to the Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon. C. W.
