YESTERDAY'S TRANSACTIONS The outstanding feature on call yesterday was the activity in Bell Hooper gold mining shares, 9d paid. Apart from gold mining shares the bulk of I the dealings were in bank shares, frozen meat, breweries, and Mount Lyells. Prices of some stocks showed an easing. S.. and A. shares reduced their limits to £5 19s. Bank of New South Wales changed hands at £34 12s 6d, buyers staying in at that price, sellers at £34 15s. Bank of New Zealand shares showed recovery, with dealings at 46s 9d and 475, and further buyers at 47s 6d. New Zealand Guarantee Corporation shares were firm, with dealings at Ss Id and Bs. New Zealand Refrigerating shares were firm, with dealings in the fully paid at 19s lid, and in the partly paid at 9s 8d and 9s 7d, the market closing firm for both issues. Kaiapoi Woollen preference shares had business at 15s 3d, and more were offered at 15s 6d. Carlton Brewery shares advanced to 40s 6d. closing quotations Is on either side. New Zealand Breweries were firm, with dealings at 37s Bd, the market closing Id either way. Tooheys Brewery shares moved up to 245, and there were further buyers at that tvrice, sellers at 24s fid. Buyers of Tooths raised their bids to 41s 9d, but sellers wanted 435. Australian Glass were firmer on buyers' offers of 50s f*d. Activity was stimulated by the tax remissions announced in the Federal budget, which were greater than had been expected. Features were sharp rises in brewery shares, also in retail trading cor-panies which benefited.
