POISONING OF DOGS
NUMBER OF CASES NOW 70 The number of dogs , killed by poisoning during the last six weeks now amounts to about 70. The Canterbury Kennel Club has offered a reward of £lO for information leading to the conviction of the person who has been carrying on the poisoning, but so fe? no success has been met with. tA 5- poi ?° nin S appears in most cases to have been strychnine, and death has been caused within as short a time as three minutes. The trouble began m Merivale, but it has since been noticed in several districts, including Kaiapoj, St. Albans, Woolston, Spreydoh, and Halswell. It would be possible, a prominent dog-owner said last night, for the person or persons responsible to ride about various distriets on a bicycle and drop poisoned meat as .he went. At present there seemed to be no means of tracing the culprit, whose activity had by no means decreased during the last few weeks.
