Though Canterbury scored 41 points to Auckland's 23 in the men's section for the Yaldhurst Shield, the surplus of 3B points in the women's section gave the northern province the trophy again. Canterbury was represented by a team of seven at the junior championships at Invercargill. and though no titles were won all swam creditably. Again it was found to be impossible to arrange a suitable date for the Nordon Cup, and the competition was not held. The centre held three interclub carnivals during the year, and co-operated with the South Canterbury centre in running a carnival at Timaru.

In the Canterbury championships titles were won by the following in the men's section:—-50 yards, D. H. Symes; 100 yards, E. McConville; 220 yards, E. McConville; 440 yards, D. P. Lindsay; 880 yards, D. P. Lindsay; mile, D. P. Lindsay; 220 yards breaststroke, C. Herd; 150 yards back-stroke, G. Low; dive. E. Crossley. Inter-club grade competitions were introduced during the season, and no fewer than 24 teams entered, resulting in 120 swimmers competing each Saturday. Next season's New Zealand championships have been allotted to the Canterbury centre, and there is every possibility that the new St. Albans bath will be.ready in time for this meeting. CHRISTCHURCH AND UNITED CLUB The Christchurch and United Amateur Swimming Club held its annual meeting last evening, Mr B. O'Neill presiding over an attendance of 45. Speaking to the annual report, the chairman said that a year ago a big step had been taken by the committee and the two clubs had combined. The record of the year's activities showed that the amalgamation lad been fully justified. The members had been particularly active and had taken a full share in the activities of the district. In the essentials, the club was as strong as any in Canterbury. The balance-sheet showed a credit of £8 12s lOdl on the year's work.

Opening day was fixed for Saturday, October 28. •ADDINGTON CLUB The annual general meeting of the Addington Amateur Swimming Club was held ■ last evening, when Mr H. Manhire presided over a good attendance of members.

. The annual report stated that the club had held 17 .races during the season 1932-33, which were indifferently well supported. Its congratula-tions-were extended to Mr H.Wisker, who had won the Junior McCracken Cup. to Mr S. Baker, who had won the Mathieson Gup, and to Mr H. Manhire, who had won the Thompson Diving Cup. The club had formed a water polo team during the season, which had played several games with other clubs. The club's thanks were offered to the Rev. Canon Bean and to Mr E.'J. Howard, for donations towards the funds. Officers for the ensuing year were elected:—Patron, the Rev. Canon Bean; president, Mr H. Manhire; vicepresidents, Messrs D. M. Shirlaw, J. McCracken, E. J. Boyes; handicappers, Messrs C. Rummels and J. Gough; custodian, Mr J. Gough; committee, Misses O. Manhire and G. Squires, and Messrs H. Tonkin, H. Wisker, and R. Wisiang. Three more are to be added at a later date. The opening day was fixed for October 28, Canon Bean to be asked to perform the ceremony.

SOMERFIELD CLUB At the fourteenth annual meeting of the Sornerfield Amateur Swimming Club, Kir A. W. Spence presided over a large attendance. The chairman, in his opening remarks, pointed to the excellent financial position of the club 'after a somewhat heavy season. In declaring Mr W. H. Winsor re-elected as patron of the club, the chairman spoke in high terms of the work Mr Winsor had done for the club. Four new members were elected. It was decided to open the baths on Saturday, October 14. and that an opening carnival be held on Saturday, November 25. To encourage the art of diving, the chairman offered a cup to be known as the President's Cup, which is to be competed for annually. The election of officers was as follows:—Patron, Mr W.
