RHODES SCHOLARSHIPS MESSRS N. DAVIS, AY, F. DUNNE, AND L. F. MOLLER [THE PEE3B 3peclal Service.] DUNEDIN, September 14. From nine applications receiyed by the Professorial Board of the Otago University for Rhodes Scholarships, the following three were selected; —Messrs N. Davis, F. Dunne, and L. F. Moller. Mr Davis was born on May 16, 1913, and was educated at the High Street School, Dunedin. In 1928 he went ,to the Otago Boys' High School, which he attended for three years. In 1929 he was joint duxi and won a University National Scholarship. At the University of' Otago in 1930 he passed with j marked success examinations in Greek, Latin, French, and English. He had similar success in 1931 and 1932, and in the latter year secured his B.A. degree and a _ senior scholarship in Latin. Outside his scholastic life at the university, ho has been a member oi the University Tramping Club, of which lie was president last year. He it: circulation editor of the "Critic." Mr Dunne, who was born on September 6, 1912, was educated at the Musselburr School and the Otago Boys' High School, and entered the university in 1930 to study mining and science. In 1932 he passed the degree examination for B.E. in economic geology, applied mechanics, and mathematical drawing; and he also passed the B.Sc. examination in mathematics 11. and geology 11., while this year he completed his B.Sc. in geology. He won the Ulrich Memorial Medal and a prize in geology in 1932, and a Government mining scholarship in the same year. He has taken an active part on the football field, representing the university and the province, and he has been selected to represent the South , Island in this year's match against the North Island. He has also been prominent in boxing circles. Mr Moller (born July 26, 1913; was educated at the Normal School and attended the Otago Boys' High School from 1926 to 1930. In 1931 ' he was awarded, among other suc- • cesses, a prize for the best first-year ' debater. In 1932 he took hir, finals in contracts, property, and Roman law, and won the Law Society's . prize for contracts. In the current | year he has been studying for the third section of the LL.B. degree. ! In cricket, football, and boxing he has taken his part on behalf of the ■ university. He is a regular coni tributor to the "Critic."
