Throughout the night and again to-day rain continued to fall steadily over southern England, bringing welcome relief to farmers and horticulturists, and to the troops who for some days and nights past hoye been fighting heath fires. The rain has not extended to north of the Midlands where, although the droup' ' has not been so prolonged as in the south, the countryside is very parched, and the water shortage is being felt in many villages.
